Joint Injections

clinic We here at Riya Clinic provide joint injections and trigger point injections that are usually given to inflamed joints or in some circumstances at the painful spot. Injection contains mixture of Local Anaesthesia and corticosteroids which relives the pain. The pain can be relieved for up to 12 weeks after the intervention but also varies from person to person.

Common sites for joint injections are knee joint, shoulder joint, small joints of hands and feet. The other types of injections that are carried out at Riya Clinic is trigger point injection or injection in the Bursa ( lining of a joint) like Tennis elbow, Golfer’s elbow, Trochanteric bursitis, Trigger Finger etc.

Knee Injections: If your knee is causing pain specially when climbing in the stairs and you are above 45 years of age it could be Osteoarthritis of the knee, you should always check with your GP as there are various treatment available to relief the symptom and delay the Total knee replacement. We offer Steroid injection of the knee and if preferred we can inject PRP in your knee joint for the long lasting relief of your pain. They are available under NHS and you should see your GP to arrange it. Shoulder injections: here at Riya clinic we offer injection for your painful shoulder usually caused by Arthritis or by repeated trauma. They are to relief your pain around shoulder joint. These injections are usually Corticosteroids with Local anaesthesia and sometime PRP injection. They are available under NHS and you should see your GP to arrange it. But sometimes if it not convenient for you or you are not willing to wait you can contact us and we will try to accommodate you within few days.

Carpel tunnel injection Carpel tunnel syndrome usually presents with ache and pain around fingers wrist and it can give rise to numbness around the thumb index and middle finger. We offer steroid injection for Carpel Tunnel syndrome. They are available under NHS and you should see your GP to arrange it. But sometimes if it not convenient for you or you are not willing to wait you can contact us and we will try to accommodate you within few days. Failing to response to this injection you might need operation to relief the symptoms.

Trigger finger injection: Trigger finger usually present with one or two finger in your hand and you will have difficulty bending or straightening your finger. We offer corticosteroid injection for Trigger finger to relief your symptoms. They are available under NHS and you should see your GP to arrange it. But sometimes if it not convenient for you or you are not willing to wait you can contact us and we will try to accommodate you within few days. Failing to respond to this treatment you might need operation to relief your symptoms.

De-Quervain tenosynovitis: It is a painful condition affecting your wrist tendon. Around your wrist just above the base of the Thumb, which becomes swollen and painful which gets worse on movement of the thumb. We offer injection around the tendon sheath to relief your symptoms. They are available under NHS and you should see your GP to arrange it. But sometimes if it not convenient for you or you are not willing to wait you can contact us and we will try to accommodate you within few days.

Carpometacarpal injection: This is a painful condition affecting the base of your thumb which becomes painful because of Arthritis and movement become restricted because of the pain. We offer corticosteroid injection in the Carpo-metacarpal joint to relief your symptoms. They are available under NHS and you should see your GP to arrange it. But sometimes if it not convenient for you or you are not willing to wait you can contact us and we will try to accommodate you within few days.

Morton’s neuroma injection: Morton’s neuroma usually present with pain between your third and fourth toes sometimes it could be between your second and third toe. Usually caused by swelling around the nerve sheath. This is confirmed by having ultrasound of your foot. Failing to respond to simple measures sometime we recommend steroid injection around the swelling to relieve your symptoms.  They are available under NHS and you should see your GP to arrange it. But sometimes if it not convenient for you or you are not willing to wait you can contact us and we will try to accommodate you within few days.

Tennis Elbow:  It is also known as lateral epicondylitis and is a condition that causes pain around the outer side of the elbow. It is caused by arduous overuse of the elbow. Primary treatment includes taking some Anti-inflammatory medications. But if these medications are no more effective then there is option of injecting steroids/ PRP around the elbow and is effective in relieving the pain. This injection sometimes needs to be repeated for long term effectiveness.

Golfer’s Elbow: It is also known as Medial epicondylitis and it causes pain and inflammation in the tendons that attach the forearm to the elbow and one can feel the pain around the inner side of the elbow. It is caused by the overuse of the elbow and wrist. This condition can be treated with proper rest, anti-inflammatory medication but if these methods fail to respond then Local injection of steroids/PRP are helpful in relieving the pain. Sometimes injections are repeated for long term effectiveness.

Plantar Fasciitis: It is a condition that can cause intense heel pain. Plantar fasciitis is an inflammation of the fibrous tissue along the bottom of your foot that attaches your heel bone to your toes. It causes pain mainly on walking. First line treatment includes rest, padding in shoes and Anti-inflammatory medications. If all these interventions fail then steroid injections/ PRP injections are injected to the sole. Sometimes persistent irritation the plantar fascia forms a lump which is called Plantar Fibroma which normally does not respond to injection and it will require operation by a foot expert.

Trochanteric Bursitis: This condition is also known as Greater Trochanteric pain syndrome. It is the inflammation of the bursa (fluid filled sac near a joint) at the outside (lateral) point of the hip known as the greater trochanter. When the bursa becomes inflamed or irritated, it causes pain in the hip. It can also be treated with appropriate rest and Anti-inflammatory medications but if it still persists then the best option is Local steroids injection to help relieve the symptoms.
